Amélie Gaudin, pharmacist, and Corentin Negrello, medical radiology operator, have introduced aromatherapy as a complementary care at the Gustave Roussy cancer centre. In 2022, the team realized a study aimed at reducing haematomas after breast biopsies with a protocol of aromatherapy (Helichrysum italicum essential oil) combined with homeopathy (Arnica montana). The study shows that 98% of the 69 patients were satisfied, with no side effects observed. The protocol showed an 8% reduction in microhaematomas. A second study should be carried out in collaboration with a statistician and a methodologist to improve significance.
In 2024/2025, the aroma team plans to develop new aroma protocols aimed at managing stress, anxiety and nausea in patients.
The grant will fund the training of one of the team members for a DU as well as an aromatherapy library.
