The Centre Hospitalier St Jean de Dieu is introducing aromatherapy for their patients with psychiatric illnesses.

The project, led by two nurses, Françoise Nury and Eléonore Hospital, both trained in aromatherapy, aims to develop clinical aromatherapy in three areas:

– in geronto-psychiatry, within the dedicated inter-sector centre

– in the hospital’s regional centre for the assessment and treatment of pain in psychiatry, which covers the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region,

– and, more broadly, as part of de-escalation practices for managing critical situations (the subject of the research).

The €5,000 grant will be used to fund the training of internal teams as well as the equipment needed to implement two protocols: one using massage to relieve patients suffering from chronic low back pain, and the other using diffusion to calm the anxiety of patients suffering from neurodegenerative disorders.

The hospital would like to carry out a clinical study to evaluate the protocol to relieve the pain of chronic low back pain using massage.
